Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and dream without limits. For 13-year-old Gajalakshmi from Kannigapuram, Chennai, that opportunity came through the right support at the right time.
Raised in a family facing financial hardship, Gajalakshmi’s father works as a watchman while her mother supports the household through housekeeping work. Despite these challenges, she remained committed to her education at her local government school.
In 2024, English and Mathematics became difficult for her. As her academic performance declined, so did her confidence. Determined to help her daughter succeed, her mother enrolled her in Oasis India’s After-School Support Program.
With dedicated mentoring, personalized learning support, and constant encouragement, Gajalakshmi slowly rediscovered confidence in herself.
The results were inspiring. She improved significantly in English and Mathematics, earned recognition for her outstanding academic performance during the 2024–25 school year, and in 2026 secured second place in a district-level speech competition. She also participated in a self-defense workshop organized by the Greater Chennai Corporation Police, building confidence beyond the classroom.
Today, Gajalakshmi is not only thriving academically but is also emerging as a young leader. She actively contributes to community initiatives and inspires other children through her confidence, determination, and willingness to serve.
Her journey is a powerful reminder that quality education, caring mentors, and timely support can transform a child’s future. When children are given the opportunity to believe in themselves, they don’t just succeed in school—they become confident leaders who create positive change in their communities.
