5th September, 2006: David Cameron, the leader of the Conservative
Party in the UK, visited the Oasis India
community empowerment project at Bandra,
Mumbai whilst on a recent visit to India. In
Mr. Cameron’s words, “ I'm
going for a simple reason: India matters so
much in the modern world.” But as he walked
through the slum which is less than a square
kilometre in area home to more than 35,000
people, he was cautiously aware that his
surroundings were far from modern. He played
with the children in the pre-school classes
and talked with some students in the tailoring
programme and computer literacy.
